Karl. E. Case is the Professor Emeritus of Economics at Wellesley College, where he has taught for 34 years and he has distinguished himself as the Director of the Department. He is a member of the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University and a founding member of the real estate research firm of Fiserv, Case, Shiller, Weiss, which produces the S & P Case Shiller cost of living index. He is a member of the Index Advisory Committee of Standard and Poor’s, and with Ray Fair, is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Before arriving at Wellesley, he was a member of the Head Tutor of Economics at Harvard, where he received the Allyn Young Prize in Teaching. He distinguished himself as an associate editor for the Journal of Economic Perspectives and the Journal of Economic Education. He received his degree from the University of Miami in 1968 and received his Doctorate in Economics from Harvard in 1976. Professor Cases’ primary fields of research are real estate, housing and public finance.
